CHARLES BOBUCK This
THIS is the end of an era.
Charles Bobuck became visible about the same time The Residents felt the pinch of the popularity of free downloading. They, like many bands, shifted their energy toward live performance. However, Mr. Bobuck did not like touring. He preferred making albums. So he quit touring and made albums instead. Logical.
THIS is a collection of music from the many “underground” albums he independently recorded between 2009 and 2016, as well as, pieces he wrote under the nom de plume of Sonidos de la Noche, Chuck, and The Residents during those same years.
THIS collection is an insight into the more personalized music which Charles Bobuck, now in his 70s, created during his final years with The Residents, a legacy addition for any record collection.
There are excerpts from the albums Mush-Room, The Highway, Dolor Generar, Life Is My Only Sunshine, Coochie Brake, Postcards From Patmos, What Was Left Of Grandpa, Chuck’s Ghost Music, Roman De La Rose, God-O, Lying Horse Rock and Codgers On The Moon. Think you’ve heard it all? You haven’t. Mr. Bobuck chose the pieces for THIS compilation himself, using many alternative mixes and adding three unreleased songs for your listening and collecting pleasure.

This is a compilation/collection of some of the best (mainly instrumental) work Charles did with The Residents (and solo) in the last six years. (...) The CD release takes in eighteen tracks from twelve separate releases, with a total running time of fifty five minutes. (...) The tracks are a blend of: moody yet off-kilter electro ambient sound tracking, darting world music elements. Ethnic tinged jazz work-outs with bouncing bass lines and quirky beats capes. Sampled gamelan, and other instrumental textures. The occasional soaring, sailing & distinctive guitar line( by long term Residents collaborator N Cook). Sampled ‘n’ electro fed horn/string work over circus-like electronica. And a general quirky/playful blend of several different musical genre elements. (...) As collection/ compilation’s go this is very, very consistent through-out, and clearly someone has gone in and selected the cream of the crop for this CD. If you’ve not heard much of The Resident’s more instrumental work in recent years, then this is a great collection to pick-up. And even if, like me, you’ve heard much of the projects out-put this is still worth picking-up, as it’s sequenced well & they’ll still be a few moments/ releases you maybe won’t be familiar with.
